GANGWAY by Captain Simon Quail is the story of seafaring five decades ago. The ship’s gangway is the link between the hidden world of life at sea, over the horizon, and the world of life ashore. The reader is invited to climb the gangway and glimpse a world long gone, a world which shaped and sustained this island nation.
About the Author
Simon Quail went to sea as a deck apprentice in 1966 when the British Merchant Navy was at its height. Employed by eleven very different shipping companies, serving on three dozen ships over twenty years, he sailed the five oceans of the world, crossed countless seas, touched almost every continent as he experienced life as a deck officer on general cargo ships, passenger ships, chemical tankers and bulk carriers.
Simon Quail is a Liveryman of the Honourable Company of Master Mariners. He has been appointed as an Ambassador to the Wellington Trust in recognition of his many years supporting the work of the Trust.
