This week the Wellington Trust was very happy to receive a Wellington@90 message of support from a close neighbour – Kings College London.
Professor Andrew Lambert FKC, FRHistS and Laughton Professor of Naval History in the Department of War Studies at Kings College, London sent his message of support to the Wellington Trust as we celebrate WELLINGTON's 90th anniversary and Wellington@90 campaign.
“The Wellington, the last British warship that fought in the Battle of the Atlantic, the greatest battle of the Second World War, is a memorial to many who have no known grave, and many more who served and suffered.
It reminds us that our freedom and our survival depend on the people and the ships that secure the sea, the shipyards that build such ships, and leaders with the foresight to prepare for all eventualities. Long may it remain alongside in the heart of London.”
Fellow historian and Campaign Director for the Wellington Trust’s Wellington@90 fundraising appeal, Trustee Professor Dominic Tweddle thanked Professor Lambert:
“My thanks to Professor Lambert for helping us reinforce the historical importance of WELLINGTON.
Professor Lambert’s words are important to us as a neighbour who appreciates our presence on the Thames. His words also amplify that the ship is a reminder of what she represents in the context of war.
I look forward to welcoming Professor onboard soon.”
This year marks the 90th anniversary of HMS WELLINGTON and the Wellington Trust recently launched the Wellington@90 fundraising appeal.
