The Wellington Trust is pleased to announce several recent changes to the Board of Trustees.
Lt Cdr Sheena Thomson RN, RNR, the Trust’s PR and Communications Lead, is appointed Vice Chairman. Sheena replaces David Hogbden, who retired earlier this year both as Vice Chairman and Trustee.
David served as a Trustee from 2011 - 2024, and Vice Chairman for four years from 2020 – 2024. During his tenure, David was key in developing our education charitable objects, as well as providing continuity, particularly during the recent challenging years for the Trust. The Board of Trustees thanks David for his enormous contribution and years of dedicated service. We are therefore delighted to announce David’s appointment as an Ambassador to the Wellington Trust and look forward to seeing him back onboard in this capacity, as well as a Friend of the Wellington.
Captain John Rees RN, OBE joins the Board of Trustees bringing a wealth of well-matched experience to the Trust. John’s illustrious career in uniform spanned 37 years and included Commanding Officer of the Royal Naval School of Education and Training Technology and the Director of Naval Training and Education (Service Director of Education), then later working for Sir Adrian Johns, then Second Sea Lord, John established the charitable structures for the Royal Naval and Royal Marine Charity and the National Museum of the Royal Navy. John then joined the National Museum of the Royal Navy as Chief of Staff to the Director General, during which he led the £34m project to save HMS CAROLINE, the last survivor of the Battle of Jutland in Belfast, and the £7.5m project to save LCT 7074, the last surviving Landing Craft Tank to be present at D-Day. He is a recognised expert in charity law and governance.
Trustee Anne Todd, who led on Education, has stepped down and has retired from the Board of Trustees. Anne has served as a Trustee since 2020 and has made a major contribution to the development of our Education programme during a particularly challenging time over the pandemic. The Board of Trustees thanks Anne and her support developing our education programme. We are therefore delighted to announce Anne’s appointment as an Ambassador to the Wellington Trust and look forward to seeing her back onboard in this capacity, as well as a Friend of the Wellington.
