The Wellington Trust is pleased to announce the appointment of two new members to the Board of Trustees.
Professor Andrew Lambert is Professor of Naval History in the Department of War Studies at King's College, London. After completing research in the Department he taught at Bristol Polytechnic, (now the University of West of England), the Royal Naval Staff College, Greenwich, and the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst. He is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society and also Director of the Laughton Naval Unit housed in the Department. In 2020 he was made a Fellow of Kings College London (FKC).
His work has addressed a range of issues, including technology, policy-making, regional security, deterrence, historiography, crisis-management and conflict. He received the 2014 Anderson Medal for The Challenge: Britain against America in the Naval War of 1812. Professor Lambert has lectured on aspects of his work around the world, from Australia and Canada to Finland, Denmark and Russia.
Timothy Paul Loughton is the former Member of Parliament for East Worthing & Sussex, retaining his seat for 27 years until standing down at the 2024 election. Tim spent half of that time on the Front Bench most notably as an Education Minister in the Coalition Government. He is an expert on child safeguarding, an area in which he legislated.
In Parliament Tim teamed up with the late Lord Renfrew, his former Professor at Cambridge to form the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Archaeology which they co-chaired for the last 10 years. Tim also chaired the very active British Museum APPG over the last 10 years.
Prior to his parliamentary career, Tim enjoyed a 16-year career in City finance. Tim studied Classical Civilisation at the University of Warwick followed by Mesopotamian Archaeology at Cambridge. He has been a member of the Sussex Archaeological Society for over 47 years.
Both Andrew and Tim are distinguished and respected public figures and bring a wealth of knowledge to the Wellington Trust. We look forward to working with them both.
